Global Village Program
The Global Village program of Habitat for Humanity Tajikistan is a short-term home building trip. It provides opportunities for people of different cultures to live and work together in a spirit of partnership and get involved with Habitat’s work in Tajikistan. Global Village team members experience firsthand the burden of substandard housing. They learn what Habitat for Humanity Tajikistan is doing to address the issue and how all people can help. They meet and get to know Habitat partners from all walks of life.

We invite you to join our Global Village Program in Tajikistan to work hand in hand together to eliminate poverty housing one house at a time. Team members are welcomed in our country by host affiliate staff and introduced to a local culture, customs and history. Trips last one or two weeks. No other skills or building experience required. There will be construction supervisors on the site to show how to build. Help and interact with local families to help them build homes, strengthen their community and enrich both their lives and your own. Global Village is more than building just houses. Participating in it you will:
- be more than a tourist - experience the sights, sounds, hospitality of locals and be welcomed into the community by hosts and introduced to the local culture as a guest
- visit old historical places, see beautiful mountains of the country work and laugh together, share stories, make friends.
- let go of many of the comforts of home and start to focus on things that really matter.
- learn about poverty housing firsthand and bring hope to a family in need
It takes enthusiasm and motivation to participate in international volunteering challenges.
Make a difference
Global Village teams are an invaluable support to our work in Tajikistan. Their concentrated power and monetary contribution help our program to build more homes and reach out to disadvantaged communities of Tajikistan.
A Habitat model!
Habitat for Humanity Tajikistan helps low-income families to build their homes by providing volunteer labor and no-profit, low-interest mortgages tailored to their income level. The families are selected according to 3 main criterias: 1) families in need who can’t improve their housing condition on their own, 2)willing to partner with Habitat and 3)able to repay non-profit Habitat’s loan. All repaid funds are used to build more houses for other families in need. The new construction creates jobs for local tradesman and stimulates local business.
Type of the houses volunteers help to build
The main types of houses which Habitat builds in Tajikistan are 2-3 room one-storeyed homes. The walls of the houes are made of either mudbricks or concerete blocks. Walls of exterior plastered with straw clay or mortar. Straw and clay are main components for insulation the houses from colds. The foundation of the houses is made of cement, stones and gravel. Mainly iron roof or slate is used for roofing of homes. Windows and doors of the houses are made of wood.
